Captains and Badges: Captain's Keys, Badge levels 1 to 5, Charms and badge tokens
Updated 2026-09-25 · 4 min read
Captain's Keys come from Block Brawl and open the chests that hold Seasonal Captains and Badge Gold Tokens. Every Captain brings a Badge with 5 levels; level 3 unlocks its Charm and level 5 empowers it. Gold Tokens turn into Silver Tokens when a new season starts.
Where Captains come from
- Captain's Keys come from Block Brawl, which opens at 250 Trophies. You earn Block Points equal to the Trophies you win in Ranked Matches and Rumble Chess, and more from Bounties. The points bring basic rewards at set milestones and rank rewards when the event ends; the rank rewards are sent to the Mailbox.
- A Captain's Key opens chests in the Seasonal Captain event. They can contain new Seasonal Captains or Badge Gold Tokens.
- Enough Badge Gold Tokens buy a Captain while it is on offer as a Seasonal Captain. Badge Silver Tokens buy other Captains.
- When a new season starts, the game converts the Badge Gold Tokens you still hold into Badge Silver Tokens.
What a Badge is
Every new Captain comes with its Badge, and the Captain's Skin and the Badge are equipped separately. A deck holds 1 Badge and 2 Charms, and the Badge slot opens at 70 Trophies. Getting more of a Badge you already have levels it up.
Levelling a Badge is one of the ways the game lists for raising your Power Bonus, together with levelling Minions and obtaining new Captains. The Power Bonus increases Minion damage and Rush Squad Unit HP.
Badge levels 1 to 5
Each Badge level raises Minion damage and Rush Squad Unit HP by the same figure. For the Coco Coinhog, Plantener, Ironbound Greenhorn and Dino Badges it is 200 at level 1 and 1,000 at level 5; for every other Badge it is 500 at level 1 and 2,000 at level 5. The game lists an upgrade cost for each level, from 1,000 for level 2 to 10,000 for level 5.
A Badge's own effect also changes as it levels up. The Captain Badges page has the text of every Badge at every level.
| Level | Upgrade cost | Coco Coinhog, Plantener, Ironbound Greenhorn, Dino | Every other Badge | Charm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 200 | 500 | ||
| 2 | 1,000 | 300 | 700 | |
| 3 | 3,000 | 500 | 1,100 | Unlocked |
| 4 | 5,000 | 700 | 1,500 | |
| 5 | 10,000 | 1,000 | 2,000 | Empowered |
Charms
A Badge unlocks its Captain's Charm at level 3 and empowers it at level 5. A Charm goes into one of the deck's two Charm slots. You cannot equip a Captain's Badge and the same Captain's Charm together: equipping one takes the other off.
Rumble Badges are separate
Rumble Chess has its own badges: you choose 1 Rumble Badge at the start of each match, and each one comes with its own bonuses.
